crochet lace

Beauty… Nature… Fragility… Those are the few of many words that come to mind in connection with crochet lace. What is it about lace that fashion finds it so interesting time and time again? For me personally, lace is a thing of fragile beauty, no matter what the technique..

When Crochet lace is mentioned, most people associate this with the old style granny crochet doilies which we all remember at least vaguely. This brings a certain stigma of being old fashioned and outdated to the poor unsuspecting little beauties. It has been stereotyped, yes, BUT, there are plenty of artists using old technique with challenging materials, or as a part of their process, which if you are interested, are on the tip of your fingers… Any search will do…

Crochet lace has even been challenged and transformed from flat surface into the extra dimension it so wanted to explore. It is the three dimensional quality of lace, and the fact that in itself, it works with the combination of solid stitches and air holes, which are the thing that draws me to lace and why it has a pride place on The Creative Hook website. Lace is see through, yet it defines boundaries. Crochet lace in particular combines substance and space. Because of the unlimited nature of crochet, the free approach in which you can create something out of nothing,  the repetitive way this creation takes place, and the fragile yet beautiful nature of lace in general, crochet lace could be just the thing to combine the best of all crafts available for you to get stuck in. It may grab you as it had grabbed me…

If that is the case, have a browse through my RAVELRY patterns and have a go… See how you like it… And remember to CONTACT ME and SHARE your 3d crochet lace experiences with me… 🙂

Oh and just to get you started, DOWNLOAD a FREE 3D lace stitch pattern in the square version HERE (there is also a link on the bottom of the page for each downloadable document)…

I have loved making the first square blanket so much that I have decided to alter it and try it in a different shape. Remember my obsession with circles and converting EVERY crochet stitch I get my hands on into a circular configuration?!

You can see below a hexagonal lemon meringue (Get it?) pattern is also available for download in both of my RAVELRY pattern store.

The meringue pattern comes with a YouTube tutorial of the round 13 equivalent – which is the crucial round for setting up each set of fan shapes – on the page below…

Thanks for reading and Happy Lacing!!! 🙂

And now for the tutorial on how to set up your Back Raised Trebles in round 13 and its equivalents:
