gaseous giant

This month, i am introducing the finished science fiction inspired nebula inspired star dust blanket. I love sci-fi. Is it because of its creativity? Its endless possibilities for imagination to flow not just for the writer but for us readers? Either, or both, the why does not matter as much as that science fiction feeds something about my own imagination and creativity. Unknown worlds of the future, abilities for human beings to develop in ways that are currently only possible in another person’s mind, there is something about science fiction that really inspires me. Whether in terms of humanity, … Continue reading

To open this blog post with an understatement: There has been a lot going on recently…   There has been a lot of unforeseen changes and as a result of our current global pandemic, most of us have had to adapt out everyday life in ways we have not experienced or could not predict in our lifetimes.  Thank You!  Thanks to everyone everywhere. Everyone has dealt and keeps dealing with the crisis in the best way that is available to us all at any one time.  We have all done our best, we have all adjusted how we could … Continue reading

existential entities

I got a little disillusioned with the whole website business thing few years back. My website was built really well initially, then nothing was updated for ages.. Years even. I even stopped crocheting for a little while, as it became painfully stressful, and i became unable to craft for some time. Slowly, however, eventually, i got back to crochet, and slowly i’ve started recording more and more blog posts. The more i write, the more i seem to know what my work actually is, and these realisations lead me to restructure THE WHOLE website to reflect this. I’ve shaken … Continue reading

dear diary – dandelion drumbeat Today’s story is from the past.  The rainbow blanket that I want to introduce today was made at the start of the year.  It was January and there were hardly any countries on lock down yet.  It seems so long ago and so much had changed since then. Still, I want to show it off, because it deserves its dedicated space and it’s story of origin.  I could not write about it any earlier for a few reasons. It was a present for my beautiful niece, who was about to be born any time … Continue reading

cantankerous crochetier

“I crochet to keep my mind from unravelling” is a revised version of a quote by Niki de St Phalle, very much appropriate for my next blog post, all about my crochet processes.  I suppose it helps to look back at what you have done, every now and again, to review, and when you make blankets as huge as the ones I make, at the same time hope to post monthly, well, there are expected to be some months void of crochet blanket completion news.. This gives me a space to fill with crochet ramblings before each blanket is … Continue reading

barriers breached

braving the barricade – barricaded bravery Usually, I blog when I have some crochet related news.  Today, I have not.  Well, that is not entirely true, I do have a new baby blanket to show cast, but not really, because even though it is finished and ready, it is meant to be a surprise, so broadcasting it here now may kind of lessen the impact of the present received unexpectedly that I am going for.  The person I have made it for, well, two people, both mother and baby, might not read the blog or see the pictures, but … Continue reading

artful articulation

I don’t undo There is no unraveling and recreating stitches until perfection is bestowed upon my work.  The point of my crochet is not for the project to look perfect, but for me to remember what i have learnt whilst making it… There is only keeping going and trying as i go along, i have no time to go back and redo… When planning this blog post, this was something that became focal to me, as it was always going to be a review of my work with an aim to start the new year with an increased ability … Continue reading

Last time I felt compelled to write a blog post, it was summer time, the weather was warm and crochet blankets were the perfect cover for those chilly evenings.. My giant crochet blankets have just been taken for a trip to the beach, and have returned safely and been washed and put away.  I have been working on all sorts of creative crochet projects between then and now, as well as working out ideas for how to explain to you all, what my crochet work is about and how i want to tell each individual project’s story: the significance … Continue reading

yesterday’s yearnings – yearly yonder The weather in the UK has not been following last year’s anomalous hotness… Am i surprised? Not really. But, when i started thinking about this post a little while ago, it was looking promising, with few days here and there bringing us temperatures warranting light jackets, if any outerwear at all… I nearly put my woolly wonders away, before i realised how perfect they are for this exact time in the year…. Crochet blankets are exactly the perfect spring/ summer outdoorsy attire – for evenings especially in the UK.  Whether you are sitting outside … Continue reading

xerophilous xyst

I have been working with a lot of previously made small crochet items recently, turning them into large, humongous, oversized, ginormous, gigantic, crochet BLANKETS. It has been a way of using any crochet work that i have made previously, and that has been lying around the work room, in variously neatly organized packages/ bags/ boxes/ drawers… or at least on surface, this has been an exercise of efficiency and recycling. To find a use for items that were originally made to be used as small cloths, various sized crochet bunting triangles or crochet coasters, which will not really get … Continue reading
