anything pattern related for fellow crafters to try…
"I am Stardust gathered fleetingly into form." - Laini Taylor Stars! There are many people who liken our being to stars, including Joni Mitchell and Jostein Gaarder (read HERE). A magnetar is a type of neutron star with a powerful magnetic field, the strongest in the universe. I don't know, I cannot say, why the STAR Crochet blanket pattern has captivated my mind and hands recently. I do not know. I found it by chance, randomly seeing someone posting about a 6-day crochet-along blanket. It kept popping up. So I found the pattern HERE and HERE started... I am including a YouTube tutorial below, very helpful for us visual learners: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhPSXvp3Dqk I made…
End of October brings Halloween. Start of November brings All Saint's Day and Guy Fawke's Night. It also brings Diwali, the festival of lights. But it is not any of these festivals, nor anything crochet related to these i want to talk about today. I do hope, you have had a lovely celebrations of autumn and winter time approaching. Today's story is about a lovely cardigan. And about sharing a pattern. Also of course about autumn cosiness and hot mugs of cocoa by the fireplace. Well, that's the romantic vision of autumn, at least. What really happened was this: One of my colleagues brought in a crochet cardigan she made. She knew i…
Initially, today is about knitting. More in detail: Knitted dishcloths tradition passed on from one family to another. Obviously, I love creativity. Creativity is my passion! If you are a first time reader - it is true. If you know this about me already as a consequence of being a fan of my blog: Thank You! For coming back and sticking with me, reading my meanderings about my creative endeavours. Always, Thank You for being patient when i repeat myself... In fact, today i would like to talk about knitting squares. Yes. Knitting indeed! Not crochet. Knitting! If you know me, and are interested to read me distinguish between the two, and how…
Brioche knitted hats. Or: The story of my personal unravelling. No, it is definitely not as dramatic as t/hat. When i am learning new stitches, i definitely am a lot less confident with knitting. When it comes to knitting, as well as in crochet, i am usually happy to leave errors in, without undoing them. Even happier sometimes to leave them than to undo them. However, the error in this case was too great, and the potential repair in situ too impossible to complete, so the whole thing - half a hat - came undone. But, before i continue grieving, let me give you a simple clue on how to know which is…
Crochet is counting. Crochet is Maths. Maths is everywhere and in everything. I have recently been asked to check a statement for my grown up niece when she was applying for a Math teaching degree course: she needed to come up with everyday examples of maths being present, and why she was passionate about teaching it. Since then, i cannot STOP finding more and more examples for her! There are examples of maths in SO many things that we do daily. And what I do daily is crochet - as you may have noticed... When i was completing the #travellingtortoise blanket brought to you today, i was convinced for the longest time, it…
Retrospectively REWRITTEN DUE TO TECHNICAL Difficulties in 2026... Some projects arrive like a quiet signal, a colour, a material, a piece of art that nudges something in you. Opulent Opalescence began with his glass work: those luminous layers, the sense of depth, the way light seems to move inside the piece rather than across it. The aim of the game was to connect my work with his, entangle our creative expression, whilst making a bespoke, individualised gift of purpose. https://ianchadwickglassart.co.uk/ Mohair felt like the place to begin. It’s a natural fibre with that rare combination of being feather‑light and unexpectedly warm, almost like it generates its own atmosphere. I imagined him travelling with…
Teddy bears are for November. Are they? Let's say that for the purposes of creative hooking in 2020, they are. I have been making these for a while. Cute bears with big heads and bodies way too small to support their big thinking brains. There is evidence on this website, in a number of different places, feel free to check it out: If you would like wonder over to HERE to see crochet creatures and therefore crochet bears related pages, or click HERE and follow the link for all the other blog posts containing more photos of brainy beauties, as and when they were created and included on the website. Some of the blog posts include background…
Retrospectively REWRITTEN DUE TO TECHNICAL Difficulties in 2026... Some blankets begin as ideas. Others begin as feelings. Gaseous Giant began as a room: the one Rose McGowan used at the Edinburgh Festival that year, washed in deep blues, warm oranges, and that quiet sense of outer‑space vastness. I remember sitting there, noticing how the colours held the air, how they made the space feel both expansive and safe. Something in me recognised that palette instantly. Sci‑fi skies. Nebula edges. The kind of colours I’ve always gravitated toward without needing to explain why. When I got home, I reached for leftover yarns and started with a simple square. Nothing ambitious. Just a way to…
With Winter approaching - even though October and some of November have been quite mild this year - HATS are the word!! The Innocent big knit is now being prepared, my hats have gone a little while ago and will hopefully make the person who gets to own them smile... Age UK are doing a great job and it seems like there has been a few people getting involved this year again, knitting and crocheting hats for a great cause. And once the bottle of smoothie has been drunk, the size of the hats are brilliant for boiled eggs.... Here are some of the designs that i have sent over to do my…
It may be a little early yet to be thinking of winter hats, but if you are to make one for each member of your family - as i can almost guarantee you will have to because they will love yours so much - you better get cracking... Following this new pattern you will make a gorgeous medieval looking, Nordic (Scandinavian) style little red riding hood hat... I love it because it has lots of pompoms.... Yours doesn't need to include any, but the added bonus of it is that if girls want to wear their hair up the small space on the top of the hat offers itself to accommodating your pony…
