knotty kaleidoscope

Before I ramble on, let me clarify my intention for today’s blogpost. Today marks an end of my latest change, today I share again, today I bring celebration of ending a learning phase and beginning a shiny new working phase in my professional development. As such, it is suitable to talk about a kaleidoscope of knotty transformation… i feel I used to really dislike weaving in the ends and would dread finishing a crochet project for this reason. Well. I loved finishing the yarn, I loved the last race to the finish line for the project on my hook to be done, then I would get the dreaded Sunday night feeling. Back to…

As we all know, end of the year is nearing. This usually means a lot of reflection on my creative year, as well as work year, and all other things that were there for the year. So how about, then, the year 2022?! With this in mind, it is a good place to reflect here, and validate, and explain, and share experiences. Start with the most colourful: For those of you who have been following, this will be no surprise. I do have an announcement to make here, which again, for my @instagram followers is no news now, but it is nice to give this a proper space, and a send off! I…

quenching qualms

End of October brings Halloween. Start of November brings All Saint's Day and Guy Fawke's Night. It also brings Diwali, the festival of lights. But it is not any of these festivals, nor anything crochet related to these i want to talk about today. I do hope, you have had a lovely celebrations of autumn and winter time approaching. Today's story is about a lovely cardigan. And about sharing a pattern. Also of course about autumn cosiness and hot mugs of cocoa by the fireplace. Well, that's the romantic vision of autumn, at least. What really happened was this: One of my colleagues brought in a crochet cardigan she made. She knew i…

Ugly arse blanket and how it really ISN'T! To begin with I was ill. Having to isolate. Being cooped up in our spare bedroom. Making sure that i did not infect the rest of the household. Naturally, i had loads of opportunity to do crochet. What i also had alongside this opportunity was a substantial blocked feeling of not wanting the next thing i make connecting with the ill feeling forever and always reminding me of it... Therefore, at this point i am stuck! In more ways than one. Understandably angry. Feeling frustrated and sad and anxious and all these things which you may naturally imagine anyone at all feeling in a situation…

snapdragon seafarer

Retrospectively REWRITTEN DUE TO TECHNICAL Difficulties in 2026... She* asked me for a blanket in "Missoni Style" (it's what she calls my work; it's what my crochet work reminds her of) in “the colours of the sea,” because "she feels calm looking at those colours". I understood this as the meaning of the nervous system regulating sea properties, the one that whooshes in long exhalations and pulls you back into yourself. The sea that steadies your breath without asking anything in return. The sea that she and I both know as adults, we know, and we seek when in need. The sea, which my nanny, for all her wisdom and care, never had…

Initially, today is about knitting.  More in detail: Knitted dishcloths tradition passed on from one family to another. Obviously, I love creativity. Creativity is my passion! If you are a first time reader - it is true. If you know this about me already as a consequence of being a fan of my blog: Thank You! For coming back and sticking with me, reading my meanderings about my creative endeavours. Always, Thank You for being patient when i repeat myself... In fact, today i would like to talk about knitting squares. Yes. Knitting indeed! Not crochet. Knitting! If you know me, and are interested to read me distinguish between the two, and how…

To see the proper development and to trace the actual story of these blankets, and if you really truly feel like reading a few more blog posts... Read first HERE in Phenomenological Pondering, then HERE in Utilitarian Utopia. When I sold the first blanket, i had great interest and people ordered more. Two more. Maybe three. I cannot remember this fact exactly, as it was over a year ago that that happened. Sometimes it is difficult to remember yesterday.... Full disclosure: I am writing this post last minute (well a week before it is out - which is super last minute for me). My initial plan was to have the fourth finished and…

In the beginning there was yarn... Let me elaborate on that: In the beginning (of any one of my crochet endeavours) there is yarn. Yarn that consequently leads to colours. Colours that furthermore lead to ideas. Ideas that eventually lead to finished crochet creations. As above, today's post started with a gift. In particular, Christmas Holidays 2019. You know, before we knew about disease control measures we have all had to find out about and integrate into our lives since... That Christmas, we visited my family. It is true, my mum have always been an avid knitter. A creative person. Incidentally, our whole family is. However, for some time, she has not been…

February is the shortest month. Yet in our family it is full of celebratory events. Birthdays, anniversaries, you name it, it happens in our family to some member or other, closest or a bit further apart, we have a lot on in February. This post is about a celebratory blanket for a different event. One that happens only once, usually. Earlier in the year, i was super busy feasting my eyes on rainbow yarn, i got a lovely lot of wool from my sister. There was a lot of red and white and some turquoisey coloured yarn. I was not sure what i was going to use it for yet, but i liked…

This month's make turned out to be a very romantic looking (at least i think so) crochet granny square blanket. I always need an easy not thinking (too much at least) project after i finish a big brain burner, like the #utilitarianutopia HERE. And i had a load of Aran wool i have not used yet - cannot get myself round to using it, not sure why, it seems just too woolly for my taste? (DON'T)... So off i went! Deciding that i will make squares till the crochet yarn runs out, and then put them together. Whatever way they may fit... Oh and there was a small lacy pattern i have wanted…
