rainbow reverie

Welcome to the world a new baby! When i make blanket for babies, i like to use rainbow colours. Baby crochet blankets are smaller and take less time than my giant crochet thinking projects. Baby blankets are finished quicker, and usually way way before the babies are due, just in case.... Spy my BLANKET page HERE to admire them on the bottom of the page in their own dedicated picture gallery, and if you have been gifted one of my baby blankets, see if you can spot yours amongst the others.*

opulent opalescence

Retrospectively REWRITTEN DUE TO TECHNICAL Difficulties in 2026... Some projects arrive like a quiet signal, a colour, a material, a piece of art that nudges something in you. Opulent Opalescence began with his glass work: those luminous layers, the sense of depth, the way light seems to move inside the piece rather than across it. The aim of the game was to connect my work with his, entangle our creative expression, whilst making a bespoke, individualised gift of purpose. https://ianchadwickglassart.co.uk/ Mohair felt like the place to begin. It’s a natural fibre with that rare combination of being feather‑light and unexpectedly warm, almost like it generates its own atmosphere. I imagined him travelling with…

gaseous giant

Retrospectively REWRITTEN DUE TO TECHNICAL Difficulties in 2026... Some blankets begin as ideas. Others begin as feelings. Gaseous Giant began as a room: the one Rose McGowan used at the Edinburgh Festival that year, washed in deep blues, warm oranges, and that quiet sense of outer‑space vastness. I remember sitting there, noticing how the colours held the air, how they made the space feel both expansive and safe. Something in me recognised that palette instantly. Sci‑fi skies. Nebula edges. The kind of colours I’ve always gravitated toward without needing to explain why. When I got home, I reached for leftover yarns and started with a simple square. Nothing ambitious. Just a way to…

yesterday’s yearnings – yearly yonder The weather in the UK has not been following last year's anomalous hotness... Am i surprised? Not really. But, when i started thinking about this post a little while ago, it was looking promising, with few days here and there bringing us temperatures warranting light jackets, if any outerwear at all... I nearly put my woolly wonders away, before i realised how perfect they are for this exact time in the year.... Crochet blankets are exactly the perfect spring/ summer outdoorsy attire – for evenings especially in the UK.  Whether you are sitting outside after a barbeque of an evening, in your garden, or gathered by a campfire,…

cotton conquest

Retrospectively REWRITTEN DUE TO TECHNICAL Difficulties in 2026... The simple cotton square. It doesn’t shout. It doesn’t demand to be admired. It just works; in the sink, in the shower, in the rhythm of your hands as you make it. I remember the time when my crochet practice was consumed with these cotton commanders. I didn’t know it then, but those experiments with 3D stitches, the bobbles, the ridges, the raised lines that made the cloths look almost architectural, meant developing and feeding my fascination with the craft. Cotton is heavier than wool. It highlights every wobble, every moment of hesitation, every place where my tension betrayed my mood. And still, it held…

arc alliance

...when you cannot see forward, to see clearly where you are going; look back at how far you have come... Suppose I should listen to the things I say to others- listen to my own advice sometimes… I have managed a to submit two pieces of work into the exhibition currently (May 2018) at Arts for Recovery in the Community (Arc) in Reddish, where I have been part of the volunteer team few years back, which made me somewhat reflective. My memory crochet blanket (LOOK) is displayed so that the tactile quality comes across really well and apparently visitors have been enjoying moving it around, unfolding and folding again to reveal/ discover different…

lunar loops crochet

Hello All..... So this is something exciting.... I have had a conversation with a fellow art enthusiast a little while ago, about organizing some crochet workshops in connection to the cycle phases and representation of these in some crochet pieces...  We are both quite excited about getting this going, but, i thought i would get the feel from you, as no workshop is possible without lovely juicy participants.... I have been looking into the cycle phases and the changes that these bring within us for about two or maybe even three years now, as i struggle with the Creative Phase in my own life - and you can see some of my creative…
