pixie hat pattern

It may be a little early yet to be thinking of winter hats, but if you are to make one for each member of your family - as i can almost guarantee you will have to because they will love yours so much - you better get cracking... Following this new pattern you will make a gorgeous medieval looking, Nordic (Scandinavian) style little red riding hood hat... I love it because it has lots of pompoms.... Yours doesn't need to include any, but the added bonus of it is that if girls want to wear their hair up the small space on the top of the hat offers itself to accommodating your pony…

i did it!

Some of you will remember my inability to follow patterns without changing and adjusting them - even my own... Others may remember my strange obsession with making any favoured stitch - or at least attempting to - work in a circular configuration... And lastly a select few may remember that the struggle to achieve this has not brought any fruitful results as of yet with the BAVARIAN CROCHET STITCH aka the wool eater, one which has become quite popular recently...... To find out more about where i got to so far read about it HERE.... Well..... Hold on to your hats!!!! I HAVE DONE IT!!! I have finally managed, by hook and by…

topsy turvy

New Month, New Abode! Moving a house takes it out of you so apologies for the irregularity of updates... Once again I am able to give undivided attention to crochet and other things creative... As a bit of a reflection, i seemed to have been doing stuff the wrong way round.... I suppose that is the only way we learn, by trial and error.. (or maybe the recent spells of lovely hot summer may have been causing my brain circuits to melt..) anyway here goes: The craft fair a few weeks ago did not go to plan. Incorrectly judged audience made for a dissapointing afternoon. But then again, i have never done one…

crochet, crochet and crochet again

This week has been very productive... I have made a lot of bavarian crochet bunting and finished some crochet flower coasters for a feature that is coming up in the Manchester Craft and Design Centre's very own QUITE CONTRARY DESIGN offered to do a showcase of some of the creations of The Creative Hook. Nice people that they are... :) All the stock got delivered this week and you will be seeing some lovely photos when all is up and integrated, and once the Quite Contrary's studio has been buntingfied and flowerfied.... Sneaky peak at the bunting here... Another reminder about the Crochet Club starting in Timperley this Monday may be one too…

Lemon merinque blanket pattern is READY!!

This week was mostly spent finishing the lemon meringue crochet blanket (Get it?!) so i could therefore finish and publish the pattern... This in turn meant adding a new page, specially dedicated to crochet lace, which you can see HERE. The pattern is ready, and so is the blanket... YAY! Well, it is ready to a point of being big enough to be photographed for the pattern sample. I may still add some rows, as with crochet, you could easily go on indefinitely - or at least untill you can get yarn to work with - and crochet around your whole house.... There's an idea... :) Anyway, I am planning another one which…

crochet bears

Ever since I was little, like so many children I have loved teddy bears. When I started getting involved with craft and once my elders trusted me with a needle, I have copied a pattern from a favourite teddy of my sisters and made number of different coloured bears for presents… They were miniature bears made from faux fur, and i still remember how much fun i had making them. I was about 12 then, and here I am at nearly 20 years later, still thinking about making teddy bears. The process has changed, but the comfort of a teddy bear seems to remain. The child inside me (and dare I say inside…

personal statement

15th May 2014 I have finished a Visual Arts Degree at Salford University a while ago but have only recently started realizing that my current job in sales is not what I am passionate about and started thinking what sort of sector would I be most happy working within. I have always loved crochet, and used it all the way through art school but wasn't quite sure how to use it when I finished University. For my Degree show I have organizes all the female members of my family to crochet a piece of work which I have subsequently framed and displayed as a sort of Female Family portrait through their handiwork. I…
